Born in Uruguay and raised in Littleton, Colorado, Federico D’Alessandro has made a name for himself as one of the top storyboard artists in Hollywood and a key creative force behind a multitude of blockbuster films. He attended Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts with the intention of becoming a comic book artist, but soon found that storyboarding was the perfect artistic outlet for his love of film and passion for storytelling. Transitioning from New York to Los Angeles, he dove headfirst into the world of commercials and independent films before moving on to big budget studio projects, building a reputation as a dynamic visual storyteller and a trusted collaborator of many of the industry’s biggest directors. His past shows include I Am Legend, Where the Wild Things Are, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Priding himself on commercial success, his projects have amassed a combined box office gross of $2.5 billion.
In 2009, he was picked up by Marvel Studios where he currently serves as their head storyboard artist and Animatics Supervisor. Entrusted with the creation and development of key action sequences, he has played an important creative role in some of the studio’s biggest hits, such as Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. He is currently working alongside director Shane Black on 2013′s Iron Man 3.
He is also developing his own feature film projects through his production company Westlawn Productions, and in 2011 his directorial debut Recollection was received with critical acclaim in the domestic and international festival circuit, including wins for Best Short Horror at the New York International Film Festival and Comic-Con International Film Festival.
He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Coral and two daughters.
“Federico brings to the table a level of craft unheard of in film previz. Ask anyone in the storyboarding biz — or just watch their jaws drop when Rico’s stuff previews. As emotional and intuitive as it is precision-crafted, his work in animatics is my favorite, of anyone. Anywhere. The gravy is, he’s a good soul. Someone give this guy a feature.”
- Shane Black, writer/director
“Federico is a brilliant young film maker – highly imaginative, daring and original. I look forward to his future work with genuine excitement.”
- Kenneth Branagh, actor/director
“Federico D’Alessandro is a consummate storyteller. His dynamic visual choices never lose sight of the intended emotional impact of any given scene. He’s been a tremendous asset to us here at Marvel Films.”
- Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Films
“Federico worked closely with me on the Narnia Chronicles ‘ Voyage of the Dawn Treader.’ Not only does he have a remarkable eye and a great visual style, but a strong sense of character and story which will serve him well in his career as a director. I think he has a great future.”
